These environmental conditions, or social determinants, include things like\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><span class=\"s2\">economic stability<\/span><span class=\"s1\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0education<\/span><span class=\"s1\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0access to healthy food<\/span><span class=\"s1\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0affordable housing<\/span><span class=\"s1\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0and safe living environments<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">To address the issue in Newark and throughout New Jersey, RWJBarnabas Health recently established a team, the Social Impact and Community Investment Department (SICI), which will work to minimize health disparities based on environmental factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe recognize that there are certain socially \u00adconstructed barriers impacting the health outcomes of the families we aim to serve,\u201d says Michellene \u00adDavis, Esq., EVP and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer for RWJBH, who leads SICI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe aim to be both in and of these communities by co-designing long term sustainable solutions through a collective impact model,\u201d says Davis.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>DOCTOR\u2019S ORDERS<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p3\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210416222843im_\/http:\/\/destinationnewark.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/RWJBH-Health-Community-1200px-1024x582.jpg\" alt=\"RWJBH Healthy Community Design\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently there is a correlation between how healthy people are and the conditions in which they live, according to recent studies.
